A tribute to my Son who served his country (a belated Veterans Day tribute)
Veterans Day has come and gone but my feelings for those who served our country will never be gone. My son served eight years in the Navy. He joined when he was 18, young and dumb. I think more to get away from a bad situation than the fact that he was going to be sacrificing life and limb.
From the very beginning things didn't go as he thought they would, but he gave it his best. He married a young lady that was also in the service and they soon had a little baby boy. The marriage was doomed from the beginning, I think, but the joy of bringing Mason into the world was worth the struggles of going through a divorce.
He saw things that turned his heart cold and turned away from God. But I believe that one day he'll turn back toward the light and the love of our Heavenly Father. He traveled to places that he'd never be able to see in a lifetime, and saw many sights that I believe tore his heart into. His ship helped bring the Christians home when there was trouble abroad, and he witnessed war-torn sites and children that were starving and probably homeless. He's never talked much about what he saw and I don't press him. As I know that some things are just too painful to talk about.
He served those eight years and sometime during those years, he met another young lady. A beautiful girl who later became his wife and together they built a life together. A life that was fraught with ups and downs, little to no money, and lots of sacrifices. But also joy. Joy that brought a beautiful baby girl, Aubrey, into their lives. I wished I had been able to be there for them as they struggled to make ends meet.
I don't believe we, as civilians, understand the magnitude of sacrifice that our men and women go through to serve and keep our country safe for us. We cannot understand what it takes and what they give up, just for us. And it is with that in mind that I say a BIG THANK YOU to all those that served and continue to serve in our armed forces. Men and Women, black, white, yellow, whatever, it doesn't matter as they all deserve our THANKS.
And to my Son, who continues to struggle today, yet works so hard to make a good living for his little family, I say God Bless YOU, Son, and I love you so much and appreciate all that you do. You have a beautiful wife, daughter, and son. A family that loves you and will always love you. A sister and brother-in-law, and three nephews who all love you and would love to spend more time with you. So don't forget about them.
My tribute goes out to my Son, but also to other loved ones that served. Two other men that meant a lot to me, my brother Max Martin, and a brother-in-law, Dell Byrd. Both men served their country with honor, made sacrifices for their families, but did so for the love of our great nation. So this tribute is also in remembrance of them and the joy they brought in my life. I love them and miss them.
Well Son, I've rambled enough. I just want you to know how much I appreciate the service you provided for us in the fight for freedom. You are loved. You have been Blessed. And whether you believe or not, God Loves You Too!
Love you bunches,
Mom
